Fun With ABBY & the Kids!

After the Villages Quilt Show I took Abby home with me for an impromptu sleepover!
She is so much fun!
So Much ENERGY!!!
I love it! She wanted to play piano and sing with Uncle Detto!

She loved every minute of it!

Stephen is sooooo cute! Both Stephen and Alyssa are growing up so fast!

While Abby was over...
Nana called!Abby HAD TO TALK!!

This girly LOVES to talk on the phone!

She also LOVES to play with TOYS! I love that she know right where her toys are and that she is fairly self-entertaining!

Notice Sissy in the background??Abby insisted on watching cartoons while playing! So... Sissy complied!

I am still going to school FULL TIME... It is getting old quick! I am starting to feel like there is not much point in me completing my degree.
I am sure the cats constant disruption has NOTHING to do with my frustration...

Do you see this CRAZY Juliet??

She will squeeze into ANY spot!

This is my VALENTINES Wall hanging that I am working on... What do you think?

In process - quilting!
I don't quilt very many things on my home machine anymore.
It is sooooo much easier to throw it on Lisa's "Merida" (her short arm machine) and whip it out.
I still enjoy quilting on my machine... especially when it is something this small!

Sewing Saturday

When I get to stay at home on a Saturday and Sew, I feel like I have just won the lottery!
Now to some that might feel a little exaggerated, but not for me.
In this busy, rush, rush era that we all live in, it seems that there is hardly ever a day of "rest"!
Sunday is supposed to be that day, but it often seems that Sunday is an "extra" day, not a rest day.
When I say an extra day, I mean a day to play catch-up on work, chores, or shopping.
So, when I get a sewing Saturday I feel blessed.

Thankfully, I used my time wisely and got a lot accomplished.
I made binding for 5 quilts. Here is one waiting to be sewn on.

I attached a few bindings, but I didn't finish them yet. I will hopefully accomplish that before the weekend is over.

Here is one binding being sewn on.It took a lot of time to cut scraps into usable binding strips and then sew them all together.
It doesn't sound like a lot of work, but you can't just sew the strips end to end. For binding they have to be sewn on at a diagonal to avoid so many layers of fabric going under the needle at once.

I also pulled out some quilts that were recently pinned.
I set these two quilts next to the ironing board in order to inspire me to sew the edges. These were pinned envelope style and so the next step is sewing around the border of the quilt.
I was sooooo pleased that I completed this quilt top. I really like how it turned out.

This is my summer applique quilt that I finished last week, but forgot to catch a picture of.
I really LOVE it. I do think I  need to add another border.
I just haven't decided what color fabric to use for it.

Simply Stringy Quilts ~ Process Pledge Update

I have been working on a new way to use up all of my scraps.
I started searching the web for inspiration and stumbled on this.
Bonnie Hunter calls this "string piecing".
The thought is that these pieces of fabric are to small to be strips or scraps, they are just strings left over from other projects.
SEW....
I started with this...
 My basket of strings.

Then I sewed a bunch of my "strings" together and cut them into 5 inch lengths
and sewed those into one long line.

I made a tube out of that and then I got out my...
Super Triangle Rulerand I started cutting!

I ended up with a whole stack of these...

Then I ironed them out and placed them up on my design wall. The problem is that I can't decide how I want the finished quilt to be...

There are lots of ways to lay them out!
What do you think I should do??

With all of our "Staycation" time in the car, I have been working on my cross stitching project.
It's coming along.I am LOVING working on this. I have found myself enjoying hand sewing more and more.
I think I might even hand quilt next!!

My Orange Squares Quilt has been coming along. I have the nine main blocks squared us and sewn together. After playing around with some more fabric scraps, I have come up with some ideas for a few borders. I think this will be finished quickly!

The Process of My Cow Quilt

OK.... let me start by saying I am not sure what I was thinking.
LOL

Someone gave me a stack of pre-cut cows to use for quilting.
These have been sitting in my sewing room for over 2 years.
Every time I am looking through my stash I find the cows and wonder "What in the world am I going to do with these?"

I HATE to throw out fabric, so I would look at them and then put them back in the fabric stash.
Well, while working on my Quilted Hugs Project I decided to use the cows.
I pulled them out and refused to put them back.
I MUST FIND A USE FOR THESE!!

This is what I came up with...

I decided to make a quilt with the cows grazing.
Before I added the scrappy half-square triangles the grass didn't look right.

I was trying to figure out how to use up my scraps and I had both the green and blue strips already cut, so... I added them to either side.

Now when I quilt this I will add tails to the cows, clouds in the sky, and texture in the grass.
I am glad they were finally used.
&&&
It added another quilt top to my Quilted Hugs Project!
I will need to count my quilts this week to see how many I have finished and how many more I need to make!

Process Pledge... Quilted Hugs

I have been cranking out some quilt tops.
Most of these are for Quilted Hugs & some of them have no known destination.

This quilt top is finally finished.
Amara picked the lay-out and Lisa gave me the Crazy swirly fabric that I used for the border.

This Batman Panel turned out GREAT!  All I added was the black border and the red striped fabric! Easy Quilt Top!

I prepared some final touches to some of my Summer Fun Quilt blocks to work on while I went to Ohio.

I thought this table runner was finished, but I had some more inspiration.

These are just SOME of the books that I have listed on Amazon, e-Bay, and the Homeschool Group's sight for SALE!!

I started this as a leaders and enders project. I am not sure what to call it.... Maybe Orange in the Corner??

My Mom gave me some bandanna's..Do you think they would make a good quilt top??

Here is an updated picture of my Precious Boy!
He is getting SOOOOOOO BIG!
He has graduated from Middle School.... I cannot believe I have a HIGH SCHOOL-ER in the house.
pppppppppppffffffffffffffffff

Quilting Update ~ Process Pledge!

I have been working on my "Quilted Hugs" project.
I feel that I am making more "GIRL" quilts than I am making "BOY" quilts.
So, I decided to make a Hidden Nine Patch Quilt with a frog charm pack that I had on the shelf.

This is all fabric that I have in my stash!
It is hard for me to decide what the layout should be.
I was thinking about adding sashing, but I didn't know if it would be too much.

Then I was trying to decide what to put in the corners... hmm
I only had nine blocks, but I didn't want a "traditional" nine patch setting, so I divided some of the blocks to look more like a border.

Then I took apart a block and made it into cornerstones....
Now all I need to do is sew it all together and add a final border.
What do you think?

Quilting Update!

I know that the title says Quilting Update, but I had to add this picture of my son - Stephen.
He is getting sooooo big! I just love him so much!

OK, as for quilting...
This is what I have been working on.
I am working on a "Summer Quilt" for ME!!
At least I think I am going to keep it.
I keep feeling like this quilt might just belong to someone else.....
hmmmm!

I have been making all of the blocks using applique. I love how they are all turning out.

I am using a pattern for some of it, but I have not decided what I am going to do about the borders yet.

I just love this block. I know that the lighting is not good, but this is a girl reading in a hammock!

These yellow squares have been speaking to these green FQ's and saying that they want to get married.
So, I think I might have to allow the "union" to proceed.
LOL
These green Fat Quarters were given to me by Nancy S. to be used for my Quilted Hugs Project! They will definitely make a quick quilt!

Speaking of "Quilted Hugs....These quilts are for my project as well! I ironed the backing on my WONDERFUL iron this week &&&& I pinned them! Now all they need is to be quilted! :)

This is some binding that is waiting to be ironed so that I can finish off some more of my Quilted Hugs quilts! I put it next to the iron so that it is in my way.... That way I will get sick of looking at it and finish it! LOL

Am I the only one who has to sabotage MYSELF in order to complete certain steps of quilt making??

The binding is one of my least favorite parts of quilting, and yet it is so quick and easy! Silly Me!
I sorted through some of my scrap applique fabric to make the flowers for this quilt...

My poor rug has not gotten very much attention lately. I did braid a little more, but I have not sewn any more of it.
And I even took it off the sewing table, that is never a good sign!

I had to share these cute containers that I picked up at Target this week.
They were in the $1 bins in the front of the store.

I instantly knew they would be perfect in my sewing room for holding my applique pieces for different quilts and for holding my postage stamps as I cut them down from other projects or use them as leaders and enders.
I love the ribbon handle that allows for easy carrying to the ironing board and back!

Hugs,
Lisa
