Villages Quilt Show! Part 1

Recently, Lisa and I were blessed to be able to go and visit the Villages Quilt Show together!

It is always fun visiting a quilt show with a fellow quilter like Lisa!
One of my favorite parts of every show is the "Challenge Quilts".
Each show and guild does it different, but this guilds challenge was to use the red fabric shown above and make at least one Log Cabin Block.
The winning Wall Hanging is shown above.
I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but it is an actually 3-D Log Cabin!
Too Cute!

They were all amazing, but I had to show these few!

Lisa and I also love to participate in the raffles!
(even though we never win!)

I thought this "Villages Quilt was too cute!"
It shows different places in the Villages. (bridges, walking paths, golf cart trails, etc.)
We decided to wait until after lunch to check out the "Vendor Hall"!

This quilt was an amazing combination of piecing and applique.

This is one that is on my "Quilt Bucket List."
Lisa and I already bought the book, now we just need to pick up the fabric and get moving!

I have a weak spot for "Christmas Quilts"!

Lisa has a weak spot for "Art Quilts"!
There were plenty here to admire!

This Grandmothers Flower Garden was Mind BLOWING! It boasted over 2800 pieces!

This show really sparked my interest in working with "Jewel Tones"!
I was drawn to those quilts with stark contrasting colors!

This was HILARIOUS!

Another Art Quilt!

I had to show this picture...
Do you notice the smallest quilt?
The tag on this one had me laughing out loud. It said this woman had always entered a quilt in her guilds show every year and so she quickly stitched these scraps together in order to complete an entry on time. She has multiple projects in differently stages of completion, but didn't want to rush through those! LOL
I'm sure many quilters can relate!

I will post more pictures soon!

Organizing Your Linen Closet!

I am blessed that I do not have to share my linen closet with my kids!
We had to share one for YEARS and it drove me nuts!
They would just pull something out (sheets, towels, quilts, etc) and everything would fall... They would just walk away like nothing happened!
Well, I have let things go a little over the last few months and now my linen closet is all disorganized!!
This is the floor of the linen closet.
Yucky!

Sorry, but these are the only pictures you are going to get. LOL The rest was just too embarrassing!
I decided that this area needs to get ORGANIZED!!
Jackson decided he would help!!
First I pulled EVERYTHING out and brought it into my bedroom!
Remember, bringing things into a different area helps you get a new perspective.
Then I separated things into the Toss, Donate, and Keep piles...
This is what I ended up with:

I found that using baskets to keep certain things in a contained space also helped a TON!!
I also put all of my pillowcases with the matching sheets.
This is an organizational hint from my Grandma!
Then the bottom looks like this...

Your challenge for today is....
#7 Get rid of all of the plastic wrapping and containers in your cabinets. They make everything look sloppy and they take up space.
 Throw it away!!
#8 Go through your sheets, towels, and pillow cases and donate all of everything that is fraying, stained, or fading. Also, donate anything that is mismatched!!!!
Only keep something if you want to use it as a rag or a pet towel, and MAKE SURE that you limit yourself to only keeping ONE!!!
Here is what I got rid of:
So far, we are making TONS of progress!
Keep up the good work!

Organizing Hats & Belts

Let me start by saying that I can not STAND hats piled up on-top of each other.
I enjoy wearing a ball-cap every once in a while, but it is sometimes just too frustrating to find what I am looking for so I will just GIVE up and keep my hair in a pony!
Another thing I can not stand is hearing my hubby searching for "that" hat.
I often find it difficult to feel sympathy when his closet is...
not as organized as I would like it to be.
See these hats just piled up here! Ugh
I decided with my "Project Organization 2013" this would be a perfect project to tackle...
In his closet was this wonderful BLANK WALL!!
I blank wall has so much potential...
This is what I did with it:
Isn't that great??
Now I don't have to hear "Where is my belt?"
"Where is my Allstate hat?"
LOL

What will I organize next??

Now for your next Challenge:
#6 Go through the hangers in your closet and get rid of  all of the ones that are bent or messed up...
See what I found - I can not stand wire hangers or store
These must go!
LOL

#7 - Go find any glasses that are more than TWO YEARS old and put them in your Donate pile!
You would not believe how many thrift stores donate the glasses they receive to people who cannot afford to buy glasses. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised!!
 Here are mine!

I think I will tackle this next:
