Civil War Reenactment

I had never been to a Civil War Reenactment. I have been to several battlefields all over the country, however I REALLY wanted to see a battle up close. I was intrigued at how it was all done. All of the men and women were wearing "period clothing" and using REAL "period weapons". It was amazing to watch. It was a VERY SLOW process, but we really enjoyed it all!

When we got home Alyssa decided that she wanted me to make her a "Old'n Days Dress"... I will post our results soon!!

Warning: Taking Nana to dinner could be dangerous

This week we decided to head back over to the "Speckled Butterbean" and this time we decided to treat Nana. We had a blast. Since it is ALL YOU CAN EAT, we decided to see just how much we could eat. We must have had over 20 plates taken away from our table. We laughed, Stephen Cried (not really), we talked, and we ATE!

At some point, I'm not sure how it happened, Nana decided it would be funny to start slapping Stephen. I grabbed the camera and did a play by play. Here is the proof...

Look at the faces she is making... it was crackin' me up!

Thankfully, Nana decided to play nice and Stephen and Nana made up....

They are so cute!!

Lately.... Part 2

We went to Ybor City a few weeks ago. It was so cool. We went to the Ybor Historical Museam. We really enjoyed learning about the history of Ybor City. The whole town was founded on the cigar industry!

The park ranger/ tour guide told us how a Cuban family sold their home and property back to the Cuban Government. It doesn't show up on any of the local maps. He told us how to get there and so...

We have our feet through the bars and our hands on the plants, so technically we are "IN CUBA"!

Notice the Cuban flag??

This is where it all started... The location of the FIRST Cigar Factory in Ybor City.
Detto Standing in front of the "Cuban Land"! His foot is technically in CUBA!

We took the kids to eat at "The Columbia Restaruant"! It was, of course, supper-dupper YUMMY! We had traditional Cuban food and deserts! The Flan was amazing. Alyssa wanted Creme Brulee because she wanted to see them "FLAME IT"! LOL

Alyssa with her "Creme Brulee"!

Stephen and his Flan!

Alyssa was amazed at how she did this! LOL

As we were walking back to our car we came up to a...
lamborghini
We had to take pictures with it

It was a great time! We have really been enjoying the state of Florida. I love being a tourist!

Lately....

Lately, I have been "thinking" about things. I am staying REALLY busy. I am too busy. I miss my days of teaching school in my jammies and reading to my kids! Lately it seems like I am RUNNING 100mph everywhere. Maybe this is a good thing, but I can't see it yet?!?!?
I know my blog lately has been 90% pictures, but that is all I can seem to do is post pics!
I plan on doing another tutorial soon.... Let see how long that takes. LOL

Here are some pictures of the stuff we have been up to....

Volunteering ~ HandOn Network

Today I joined the "HandsOn Network". This is a volunteer organization that encourages us to get out there and do something to help make our world a better place. I think there are probably lots of people doing and we dont even know about it! Today I joined and I hope you will head on over here and see what you can do to help too!
By sharing my commitment I hope that it encourages you to join to!!
Here is my commitment: I made donation quilts last year and it was sooo adictive. This year I want to do it again. I just joined a group of ladies at a local church who are making a difference with their sewing machines. Last year I was making donation quilts by myself, but this year I have a group who will keep me on task, encourage me, and share in the joy of giving and doing for others. I am really excited about this commitment!
Here are some of the quilts that I donated in 2010:

For some reason it didn't let me add all of the pictures. Oh well!!!
Get out there and get involved!
