Quilting Update ~ Process Pledge!

I have been working on my "Quilted Hugs" project.
I feel that I am making more "GIRL" quilts than I am making "BOY" quilts.
So, I decided to make a Hidden Nine Patch Quilt with a frog charm pack that I had on the shelf.

This is all fabric that I have in my stash!
It is hard for me to decide what the layout should be.
I was thinking about adding sashing, but I didn't know if it would be too much.

Then I was trying to decide what to put in the corners... hmm
I only had nine blocks, but I didn't want a "traditional" nine patch setting, so I divided some of the blocks to look more like a border.

Then I took apart a block and made it into cornerstones....
Now all I need to do is sew it all together and add a final border.
What do you think?

Hugs,
Lisa

Quilting at the Hotel

Thankfully I am home now...
I had to spend the weekend in conferences.

I brought my sewing machine and set up a make shift sewing area!
I cut down an old self healing cutting mat to 10X11 Inches so that I would have a travel size.

It worked out GREAT!
I brought some blocks that I had already cut out.
Lisa and I picked these out this Star Quilt-A- long to do in 2009!
They have been sitting on my shelf since then.

I also quilted this table runner while I was there.
It was small enough to finish in one night.

I laid out the blocks and then whipped them out.
I did not realize how load this machine was until I brought it to a hotel room!
LOL
I was able to finish FOUR blocks and my table runner!
I also worked on cutting out 4 applique blocks!
I am glad that I had lots to keep me busy.
Sitting in a hotel room by yourself is not as magical as some may think!

My Blue Heaven Is finished!!

I cannot believe that I have finally finished my quilt!! I mean FINISHED! Basted, quilted, and binding!! Yeah!! "My Blue Heaven" is completed!!

The kids went to Noni & Popi's house Thursday until today and ALL I did was quilt! It took me 2 days to machine quilt this monster. I quilted Thursday night and worked on it all day Friday! I only had to finish the binding today! I was so anxious to get it done that I machine stitched the binding down with a really cute decorative stitch!!

Here it is on the bed!!

I cant believe that it is done! I am so happy. I love it! It was such a fight to quilt a king size quilt on my little machine.
This is the quilt rolled in my machine. I bought the machine with the extra space for rolling quilts and there still wasn't enough room!!
This is proof that I did it myself!!

This is some of the quilting detail on the border!!

Today Detto and I went to a quilt shop in Downtown Leesburg and talked to a woman about getting a Long arm or a Short arm sewing / quilting machine!! He said that I will be able to get one... Just not today!! He sees why I need one, but paying for it is another conversation! I will have to start saving my pennies!!
I also finished my Block of the Month blocks from Cafe Mom Quilting Moms!! I am so glad. Here are my last two blocks. I am not sure how I am going to finish this quilt. Should I use sashing or just sew the blocks together? What border should I use? I have to lay out the blocks and really look at all of my options. I wonder what the other Mom's are doing?

Detto and I really enjoyed our time together w/o the kids. We both always miss them so much when they are gone!! Last night we went out to dinner in the Villages. We went to RJ Gators and sat outside. The view is so pretty, you look at a pier and a nice lake. They have little boats anchored in the lake. We watched the sun set. SOOO romantic. Then we sat and watched the band play in the square. Of course, he knew the Saxophone player and so we went out for ice cream with him and his wife!! It was actually really nice!!
Overall! I Great weekend. I love the way it feels when I complete a project! I love it More when it is a project for me!! hahaha
And thank you to everyone who has been leaving me comments. It is nice to know that you enjoy reading my posts!!

Quilting Rocks!!

Quilting!

I have had a blast Quilting this weekend! My parents took the kids and so I have Friday and Saturday to catch up on projects!! I got so much accomplished! I was able to finish 3 baby quilts and make my EASTER table cloth / Quilt! See isn't it cute? (It looks like there is something wrong in the lower left corner, but it is the angle of the picture. This top is made up of different blocks that I got from my Block Swap that I did on CAFE MOM!! I love Quilting Mom's!!
I had already made the tops to the baby quilts (I made those earlier in the week), however I was able to baste, quilt, and bind all three without kid interruptions!! Yeah Me!!

I love to quilt. I realized that I work best when my work area is sorted, but messy. I wasn't sure what fabric to use as backing or binding for one of these quilts and then I saw "The FABRIC"! It was peeking out of a pile of fabric! It was so bright and colorful and the fabric YELLED (yes, fabric talks to me!)! It Yelled "HEY USE ME! I WILL BE PERFECT FOR THAT QUILT", so I was obedient and listened!! I used it and it looks great!

This is the backing Fabric!!!

The same thing happened with the binding fabric!! Wow!
I also was able to catch up on my BOM (block of the month) Blocks! I hadn't don't the blocks for March or April. So I cut and pieced those! I am loving this BOM.

March Blocks

April Blocks!
There are actually two blocks per month!!
Quilting is so enjoyable to me! I woke up early to quilt today (on a Saturday ~ WOW)!!
I feel so great when I have finished a project and it looks so neat!! I love to quilt.
I was also able to get my fabric packs together for my quilting class on Thursday (there is still time to sign up, if you haven't already! I only have 3 more spots to sign up NOW!!)

I am really excited about this class!! We will be making a mini quilt!
Alyssa was the reason behind the class. See, I bought a new sewing machine a few weeks ago. It is about time, the one I had before was not meant for quilting. It was designed for someone who was going to hem a few pairs of pants or make a few Christmas gifts. Not someone who enjoys POWER QUILTING! I kept having trouble with the machine overheating, so I saved my meager pennies and bought myself a better machine. The new one is meant for quilting. It is so great, I love it!! Anyways, Alyssa asked me if she could have/use my old machine. I love that she is so interested in sewing and quilting. I asked her what she wanted to use the machine for... and that's when she asked me if she was old enough to learn to quilt!! I said of course you are!! And now I am teaching a quilting class!!
I also took a few pics of my MESS / CREATIVE sewing area to show you where I work!
I don't mind the clutter. I organize my area once a month so it doesn't get too bad! I like that I can watch movies or listen to music while I am quilting and sewing!! It makes it more enjoyable for me!! I wonder if other quilters listen to music or watch movies while quilting??
Well, I am thrilled with all that I accomplished these last two days! I hope I can stay on a roll and get more done!! This is supposed to be a busy week so, we will see!!!
