The Pyramid of Quatzalcoatl

Quatzequatel: Winged God
Thoth and Quetzacotal were the same person, Thoth was identified to Atlantis, Egypt, Sumer, then later was identified to Meso America and Peru as Quetzacoatal.

Quetzalcoatl (Classical Nahuatl: Quetzalcohuātl [ketsaɬˈko.aːtɬ]) is a Mesoamerican deity whose name comes from the Nahuatl language and has the meaning of "feathered serpent".
That is my Dad walking up to the pyramid! This one was smaller than the others, but it had so much more detail that the other ones lacked.

These are remnants of murals.

We climbed up the first pyramid and we were able to look down on the pyramid directly behind.
Because they were so close together, they were more protected fromt he elements and more of the adornments on the pyramids were preserved.

The shells stand for sacrifices made or being made.
Shells were very valuable in this culture.

This is a Jaguar head.
We sat and stared at the pyramid for over 45 minutes.
I was just amazed that all of this was made out of stone. Hand carved with primative tools.
The colors and details have some how survived all of these years.
The amount of work that was done was mind blowing.

These are steps built around the courtyard of the pyramid.

I took pictures of Stephen and Noni to give some perspective of how big the courtyard is.
Notice the guy in the red hat??
That is my Dad. He is always way ahead of the rest of us! LOL
Charging on to the next adventure.

Before we left we checked out the museum...
Once again the stone carvings, paintings, and detail were amazing.

It was so interesting to learn about this ancient culture.

Murals at Teotihuacan, Mexico.... Part 2 - THE BEST MURALS!

We went to a small area where these were discovered.
It was away from the main part of the city and the guard told us that few people ever come and see these! I was SHOCKED!
These were the BEST murals in the whole city!
Some of the best original, intact, accessible by the public murals in the WHOLE WORLD!!

The intricate details were amazing to me.
These were done Thousands of years ago!

This is a image of them swimming and diving!

The swirly thing is his voice or song.

They believed the butterflies were the souls of their dead family members.

He is singing to the butterfly.

Here they are playing a game.

This is them ripping a mans limbs off! Such a loving people! LOL

This is the indians representation of Creation.
They are sowing the seeds of plants and people.

The droplets represent life. They are drops of blood and of rain. It also represented the earth being replentished.

We had a picnic here after we saw the murals.
This is the backside of the Pyramid of the Sun!

Murals at Teotihuacan, Mexico Part 1

The Murals tell the story of the history of the indians that built these pyramids, temples, altars, and city.

It was hard for me to fathom that we were able to walk through the original palace and see the murals still on the walls. They were on the original walls, outside & inside, of the temple. They were uncovered and exposed to the elements.

We were able to walk right up to them.

The colors amazed me.  The carving in the stone amazed me.

These are birds.

Please notice the stone carving in the corner.

What were they trying to say?

Were they just to decorate the temple and palaces?

Who were the murals for?

I found this information interesting.
I could not stop there. I had to keep reading.
If you want to learn more go here.

We were facinated by them.
Luckily my Dad bought a book (In English) about the city and it showed us where to go to see even more murals!!! So we jumped in the car and headed there.....
